On The Lonesome Road (original album)

Junior Chills – On The Lonesome Road (original album)

With the onset of fatherhood and a return to education I haven’t had the time I once had to regularly update my WordPress page. However I have been endlessly writing new songs to keep ‘stress’ at bay. I find that writing my songs are the easiest part but finding time to record them is quite tedious. Nevertheless I got a few hours today to upload not just one song but a handful which I have put into a wee album.

The songs explore a lot of different topics well the usual ones that I explore anyway. Although I love playing all the songs I write, I particularly enjoy Daydreaming, Stress and Ireland Bound.

So check it out. Give it a listen to. Find out a song which sticks out for you and let me know. Any and all feedback is greatly received and appreciated.

Hope you enjoy it.

Junior Chills – Wake Up World

Wake Up World

Following the 38 billion dollar military aid agreement between the US and Israel and the ongoing occupation and subjugation, discrimination and murder of Palestinians at the hands of the latter I decided to put a few thoughts into a new song called Wake Up World. I didn’t even try to hide the song behind an obscure title as I want to be as blunt and as forward as possible – Wake Up World. Wake up to what is happening in Palestine… can’t we see that Apartheid is here?

So this is the second of my protest songs about what is happening in Palestine right now.

I hope you like it.

Junior Chills – Now I Know (original)

Junior Chills – Now I Know (original)

I think that the title ‘Now I Know’ is ironic as now I know that my home recording set up just isn’t going to cut it. Trying to find a fine balance between voice and music so that one isn’t too over powering on the other is quite difficult when all you have is a microphone in the middle of the room. Maybe GarageBand would be able to help out here as I would be able to record both separately but I find the app very clunky and often confusing to use. At the beginning of the song you can hear (or can’t hear) that the music is drowning out the opening lyrics…I tried playing softer but it didn’t sound quite right. I also attempted to project my voice a little louder and this was the result of that. It is a work in progress I suppose…

This song is a little different from what I usually put up. It is fast paced throughout which I think lends well to the lyrics which are sung quite lethargically. It is a song about knowledge and knowing which is reflected in the chorus:

The things that I should know,

Are the things that never rest,

Oh, darling now I know

Cos I can do them best

I think it’s the whole idea of when you should know something is always the time when you get asked about it so it’s best to be prepared and always know the things that you should know.

For the video I found free stock footage online which I thought lent itself well to the song, especially after I added a few filters to it. The song, for me, is quite dark and I wanted to reflect this in the video for the song. As such, the mirrored image of the woman in the video is quite disturbing …the complete unnatural element to the video is at times quite nauseating…is that a good thing? Probably not. But if there comes a time when you need to be sick but are unable to throw up, maybe stick on ‘Now I Know’ and it might help your stomach to churn just a little bit quicker.

I hope you enjoy it.
